I bought a bundle of vampire stores written by different authors. The bundle is called Crimson Dreams A Vampire Anthology. The first book in the bundle is Blood of the Son by J.L. McCoy. I started reading it and became so engrossed in the story line and the characters that I couldn't put it down! So once I finished that book I was SO happy to see that, there were more books in this series. So I bought book 2-5.5. Just finished book 2 Sins of the Father and will be starting the 3rd book. If you like stories about Vampires this is A MUST READ series! I'm trying to pace myself but, it is hard because these books are written so well, that you get sucked into the story line and feel like you are right there witnessing what is taking place with the characters as your reading! Keep up the AWESOME work J.L. McCoy! Looking forward to reading books 2-5.5 and for book 6 to come out!Product details

Sins of the Father Skye Morrison Vampire Series #2 eBook JL McCoy Reviews
We're still immersed in the love triangle dilemma Skye is having with the two hottest vampires imaginable, at least for me. I keep switching which vampire I root for Skye to get with and stay with. The ex vampire wifey blonde chick is getting annoying but every story needs an antagonist.
I've read the first 3 in the Skye Morrison Vampire Series, and just bought the 4th. I enjoy this series lots, and would recommend this author to anyone that is into this type of reading, ie...paranormal, adult stuff...it's a good read!!
Book two was slightly better than the first. The needless details were restricted this time around to Skye's clothing selections. The writing remains uneven and choppy. Dialogue is often quite forced.
One thing that Skye is going to have to come to terms with about herself, though, is that she is a definite slut. I think she'd be better off in the long run. She now has at least three men after her and flirts with anything with a pulse. Not saying that I care, mind you, but the character certainly thinks she's quite the wholesome little butterfly.
She also has the attention span of a rat terrier. See a brutal double homicide? Time for a little sex followed by some light shopping. There's also a bit of feminist factual distortion if you're in to that sort of thing.
I couldn't resist the cliff hanger from Book 1, so I read the next in the series. It was somewhat better, but character still seems somewhat weak. Skye wants to be treated as an equal but isn't decisive when she should be in tune with the personality the author seems to want. The plot keeps me interested and I'm hoping the 3rd book really improves the character.
What do you do when you are faced with having to move in with two of the hottest guys on the planet? I have to admit that I am jealous of Skye for all these hot guys! I love that they put her into a training program and are going out of their way to make sure she is protected.
When they found the surprises (trying not to spoil it!) in the driveway, I was ready to pack up and run for the hills! Great continuing story in this series and I am dying for more!
I'm not a hater. I love reading books by authors who self-publish. Why let large publishing houses suck your profits when it can go straight to you? So, I enjoy spending my money on those who have the hutzpah to get out there and make it happen. Having said all that ... this novel is not worthy of more than 2 stars. I suspect that most of the comments with 3 and up stars were given by people that personally know the writer or are from her book/writing club or are under the age of 18. There is no way this work of paranormal romance can stack up against the likes of J.R. Ward ...J.R. Rain...Kim Harrison...Jeaniene Frost, etc.
The story suffers from the same problems the first book had ... it just drags on (with an occasional dead body) ... and nothing really happens unless you count the back and forth between Skye and the two vampires...and watch her flirting with every guy she thinks is hot. Nothing really starts to happen until 80% (according to my ) of the story has been read! And what makes me more nauseous is Skye. There is nothing even slightly redeeming about her -- she is ..... pardon my Russian...a hoochie and nothing about her is likeable. She plays tough girl ... repeatedly saying she hates looking weak in front of others ... but we see her pass out on the front lawn, cling to others when she's frightened...etc.
The cover jacket matches the story --- poor quality (that is not to say that I think McCoy is not a good writer...it's just her imagination hasn't caught up with her writing skills.)
And doesn't anyone ever think it is kind of weird that a 1300 year old vampire would even be remotely attracted to a girl who drinks on the job and who only loves to dance? Just saying .... made me respect the vampires even less while reading the story.
And I still want to burn that darn messenger bag ... in every scene!
P.S. Ms. McCoy When you microwave blood in a consumer (non-scientific) microwave you basically NUKE the basic components and it more than likely makes it toxic -- hemolysis. Not a great drink for a vampire. Yuck.
Skye finally chooses between Archer and Jameson. Although she did make her decision in the heat of the moment and without all the facts. So I'm not really on board with her choice. Skye is also kidnapped and the person behind the killings is revealed. A lot of action, death, too many close calls to count and the hatchet is buried between two in the house.
